How sliding doors actually fail

Nearly every sliding door problem traces back to one of four parts: the roller assemblies that carry the panel, the track they run in, the glass unit, or the lock and handle hardware. They fail in a predictable order. Rollers wear flat or seize first, which makes the door drag. A dragging door then grinds a groove into the soft aluminum track, which is why a door left sticking for a year often needs track work that would have been unnecessary six months earlier.
