Why the neighborhood changes the repair

The same sliding door fails differently depending on where it sits. Within a few miles of the water, salt air is the dominant force: it corrodes roller bearing races and pits the hardware, so a coastal door can need rollers years before an identical one inland. In the high-rise corridors, balcony sliders take far more wind load, and the practical constraint is often building access and service-elevator scheduling rather than the repair itself.
